A Mother Of The Bride Skin Treatment Journey
As I write this, we are in the full swing of the wedding season, yet this is now a quiet period for Mother of The Bride (MOB) or Mother of The Groom (MOG) skin treatments. In most cases, patients attending a wedding have already completed their skin treatment journey with me in the lead up to their loved ones special day. However, each year I have a panicked MOB or MOG sat in the clinic with only a month to go until they will be sharing the spotlight of a day filled with love, laughter, and photos that will be seen for generations. It is no surprise that they want to look their best for this special occasion, however what some do not realise is that it takes careful consideration and planning for non-surgical skin treatments in the lead up to an event. In this blog post here is an example of the carefully planned treatment plan of one of my recent patients. This patient has given me full consent for the use of her images and story in this blog and is copyrighted to Lumiere MediSpa, and non-reproducible for any other company or persons use.
Skin Treatment Timeline
6 Months Before
Preparation is key. It might seem quite ridiculous to starting thinking about your skin six months prior to the wedding date, however this is an “ideal” starting time. Starting this process nice and early allows for your treatment plan to be organised safely, allows for any downtime to be scheduled, and makes the journey a joy rather than a burden.
At 6 months you can begin searching out the aesthetic practitioner that you feel most comfortable with to take you on this journey. Trust and mutual understanding of expectations is paramount to the success of your treatments.
A few tips to remember when searching for an aesthetic practitioner:
If possible, take recommendation from someone you trust, or seek reviews of the person and company.
Ensure the practitioner has a medical professional background such as a Doctor, Nurse or Dentist. Don’t be afraid to ask for their professional registration number and look them up on their professional register.
Ask about their professional indemnity insurance
Ask about their experience
Ask about the risks of the treatments being discussed. These should be fully disclosed and discussed as well as being written for you to read.
Trust your instincts; if it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.
5 Months Before
At this point my patient had already sought me out and had an initial consultation with me. It was my honour that she returned to me to begin her treatments. As part of her treatment plan we had agreed upon conditioning her skin with medi-grade skincare Calecim Professional Multi Action Cream. This was started after our initial consultation to begin the restoration of cellular activity and reinforce a healthy skin barrier. We had also agreed a timeline in the lead up to the wedding. A large part of her plan was to replace facial volume loss, which required the use of dermal fillers. It should be known that any injectable treatment carries the risk of bruising and swelling that could last from a few days to a few weeks, therefore the careful timing was crucial, so as not to collide with any pre-wedding events.
At 5 months she had already seen improvement to the quality of her skin health from the Calecim and now deeper structures required attention.
Treatment Plan:
Deep dermal filler to replace facial volume loss to boney structures and fat pads of the face with Teosyal RHA 4 and Ultra Deep Hyaluronic Acid.
Soft Hyaluronic acid dermal filler Teosyal RHA 2 and 3 to soften the facial wrinkles and folds, as well as to provide subtle lip enhancement where volume has been lost.
Specialist dermal filler for under eye fat pad hollows Teosyal Redensity 2.
First Botox treatment to target dynamic facial lines and contractures, such as the frown and crows feet, as well as to treat lower facial pulling of the mouth corners.
All risks and benefits were discussed again and provided in written format to be signed for her consent to proceed. Full aftercare advice was given and contacts provided for any out of hours concerns.
4 Months Before
At 4 months we met for a review appointment to assess the improvement to facial volume and wrinkling. The patient was delighted, and you can see why! The effect was dramatic, yet subtle and natural. Her overall appearance is the same, yet looks healthier, less tired, lifted, and even the tone of her skin is more luminous. The results of her dermal filler treatments will generally last around 12 months (with minor maintenance at 6 months) and botox for 3 months. The next stage planned was to further improve the overall luminosity of her complexion and reduce sun damage pigmentation, particularly to the under eyes.
3 Months Before
To target the patches of sun damage pigmentation in this patient’s skin we agreed to a treatment with a medium depth skin peel called The Perfect Peel. The perfect peel is unlike any other peel. With a secret formulation, the Perfect Peel is a synergistic blend of 6 acids, vitamins, minerals and the mother of all antioxidants, glutathione. The treatment safely encourages the controlled exfoliation of the top 3 layers of skin, taking with it any pigmentation caught within those layers. It also regenerates and firms the cellular structures beneath in response to this action.
The process of peeling after this treatment can be a little daunting and lasts for 7 days, therefore careful timing is required. The patient had her daughters Hen Do to attend and was arranged so as not to interfere with this.
In the photos below yo can see what a typical representation of this peeing period is like. Plus you can literally see the discoloured skin lifting away revealing fresh clear skin!
1 Month Before
With one month to go, the patient’s next botox treatment was due. Because we had already planned one treatment in the beginning of her plan, I was able to know exactly the perfect dosing for her and simply replicate it.
2 Weeks To Go
Botox review time, for any final perfections needed.
1 Week To Go!
How about a nice medi-facial! The perfect timing for a CellRenew Facial at Lumiere MediSpa would be a week before a big event. There is no downtime and it allows for all the biological stimulation we have provided to the skin to take effect for glowing skin on the big day!
And for the wedding day…
So the take -home message is plan, plan, plan and leave plent of time to do your research. Of course there is good news if you have missed all of the above for careful planning, at least you can still opt for a CellRenew Facial and then focus on the restoration of other features after the wedding.
